Clam® Outdoors Hanson Honored as CFO of the Year

0_copyRogers, Minn. (Oct. 26, 2016) –  Clam Outdoors is proud to announce that its Chief Financial Officer Dave Hanson was recently recognized as CFO of the Year by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. This prestigious award is presented to a handful of professionals in the Twin Cities area that have achieved success in the industries for the companies they have served. Recognition for this honor is based on criteria in the industry ranging from excellence in company growth, crisis management, technology investments, strategic planning and revenue.

As Chief Financial Officer, Hanson has been in integral part of the growth of Rogers-based manufacturer Clam Outdoors. Originating in the Twin Cities metro area, Clam Outdoors has grown to become one of the top manufacturers of outdoor recreation products in the country. Hanson joined the Clam team as its CFO in 2011 and has since driven the company to almost double its annual sales revenue.

Clam Outdoors became well known in the 1980’s for the fold-over fish houses or “fish traps” that were pioneered by ice fishing legend Dave Genz. Clam continued to gain popularity among ice anglers and increased market share as a leader of innovative products that served the ice fishing industry. However, one of the biggest challenges of seasonal sales is consistent cash flow. “There was a time when we made 80% of our revenue within a four-month period,” notes Hanson. “That created tremendous cash flow issues that impacted the entire business. By strategically diversifying our product lines, we were able to offset those issues and gain year-round revenue.”

Those diversification tactics included the launch of several new brands including Polar, a line of home, garden and farm-use trailers and carts; Quick Set screen shelters, one of the easiest to assemble outdoor screen shelters on the market, as well as a line of summer open water fishing rods by Jason Mitchell and a line of musky tackle called Big Tooth Tackle. “By using our same model for innovation, we have given our customers the quality, lifestyle-enhancing products that they need, while keeping our production up throughout the year. That’s the kind of win-win relationships we strive for at Clam,” adds Hanson. “Our name has always been synonymous with ‘quality outdoor recreation’, so it made sense to us to use the same technologies to create products that consumers love to expand our brands.”

Hanson is an avid outdoorsman and has served as a mentor in a youth pheasant hunting academy for the past 3 years.
